Features

Everything you follow,
one remote away.

Your library, as a TV app

Continue watching, New in your channels and a row for every channel you pin, all scrolling sideways, with your groups and channels below. The focused video glows softly behind.

A player made for the remote

OK pauses; left and right skip, with a bubble showing where you'll land; 1–9 jump ahead. Down brings up the buttons: subtitles, audio, speed, a sleep timer.

Up next

When a video ends, the chat's next one starts after a short countdown. Or pick from the channel's next videos, right under the player.

Search, or just ask

Telegram's search across every group and channel, typed or spoken with your TV's voice search.

Picks up where you stopped

Resume to the second, with watched marks. Stored on the TV only.

Speaks your language

Twelve languages, fully right-to-left in Arabic, Hebrew and Persian. Hebrew or Arabic titles sit on the right, even in an English app.

Channel pages

The whole name, who follows it, what it's about. Newest first, or oldest first so a series starts at episode one. Hold OK on a chat to pin or hide it; folders become tabs.

Set up from your phone

Scan one code to send your API keys from your phone, another to log in with Telegram. No typing with the remote, no SMS.

Plays the stubborn files

Another decoder, then software decoders, then mpv at the same spot.

Updates itself, carefully

New versions download quietly in the background and wait for you. Nothing is installed unless it passes every check.

  2. SHA-256 matches the release
  3. Signed with the same key

Open source, all the way down

MIT licensed. Even TDLib is built from source, at a pinned commit.

How it works

Straight from Telegram
to your TV.

VueGram is built on TDLib, Telegram's own library. Each video is handed to the player by a tiny server inside the app that only answers on the TV's own address, 127.0.0.1.

No bots

Nothing is forwarded to a bot or a download service.

No middlemen

No VueGram server. Video goes from Telegram to the TV.

Streams, not downloads

Watched parts are deleted, so nothing piles up on the TV.

Privacy

Your viewing is
nobody's business.

No VueGram account, no analytics, no tracking. Here is everything that leaves the TV, and everything that doesn't.

Stays on the TV
  • Where you stopped in each video
  • What you have watched
  • The chats you pinned or hid
  • Your settings
Goes to Telegram only
  • Your login, through Telegram's own library
  • Loading your chats, videos and searches
  • Your own API ID and hash
One question to GitHub
  • At most every 12 hours: "is there a newer VueGram?"
  • Nothing about you or the TV is sent

This website is the same: no cookies, no analytics, no trackers. The only outside requests are the Outfit font from Google Fonts and GitHub's public API for the latest version.

Install

On your TV
in three steps.

For Android TV and Google TV, Android 6.0 or newer.

  1. 1

    Install from the TV

Get Downloader from your TV's Play Store, type vuegram.com/get in it and choose Install. VueGram keeps itself up to date from then on.

  2. 2

    Send your API keys

Get your free API ID and hash at my.telegram.org, then scan the TV's QR code and paste them on your phone. No typing with the remote.

  3. 3

    Scan and watch

Scan the QR code on the TV with Telegram on your phone. Your channels appear.

Step-by-step guide

FAQ

Questions,
answered.

More in the docs.

Is VueGram an official Telegram app?

No. VueGram is an unofficial client built on Telegram's own library, TDLib. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Telegram.

Does it cost anything?

No. VueGram is free and open source under the MIT license.

Why do I need my own API ID and hash?

Every app that talks to Telegram identifies itself with an API ID and hash. VueGram asks for your own, free from my.telegram.org, so your copy talks to Telegram as itself. How to get them.

Why log in with a QR code?

It needs no SMS and no login email. Telegram sometimes asks for a paid SMS or a login email before it sends a code to a phone number; the QR code avoids both.

What does pinning a channel do?

Hold OK on a channel and choose Pin to top. It joins Pinned near the top, gets its own row of its latest videos (starting with All videos, one press into the channel), and its new videos also show in New in your channels: the newest videos you haven't watched yet from everything you pin.

Can I watch a series from the first episode?

Yes. Open the channel and choose Oldest first at the top: its videos then run from the first one, and when one ends, the next starts by itself. VueGram remembers the order for that channel.

Will it show my private chats?

Not unless you want it to. Out of the box VueGram lists groups and channels only. Settings › Show people adds your chats with people; bots are never listed.

Do videos fill up my TV's storage?

No. Videos are streamed, and the parts you watch are deleted afterwards.

A video won't play. What now?

VueGram's player tries other decoders by itself. For the rare file none of them can play, install mpv-android: VueGram then opens the video there, at the same position. See troubleshooting.

Is it on the Play Store?

No. VueGram is installed from its GitHub releases, and after that it updates itself.

Lean back.
Your channels are on.
